Training exercise.

A very successful joint exercise took place this morning between the Plymouth Coastguard cliff rescue team, Plymouth lifeboat crews and the Casualties Union.

Three casualties were reported to have swam ashore in the Bovisand area after an explosion in the galley of their yacht. Plymouth all weather lifeboat and inshore boat, along with the Plymouth Coastguard, were tasked to proceed to the Bovisand area.

Plymouth Coastguard deployed three search teams, whilst Plymouth inshore lifeboat carried out a shoreline search of the area. Plymouth ILB soon spotted two of the casualties on the rocks, and were able to direct one of the Coastguard teams to their location. They were then able to give immediate first aid and walk one of the wounded to safety. The third casualty was located by another of the the Coastguard search teams, and after an initlial assement, the ILB was called to evacuate the casualty. Due to the location, it was then decided to launch the "Y" class boat from the Plymouth lifeboat. Once the casualty had been recovered and taken back to the all weather lifeboat, the "Y" class returned to the location of the first casualties to take the remaing person off the rocks and on to the all weather boat.

The exercise concluded back at the lifeboat station where a round up of the mornings exercise took place along with a well earned cuppa!
